Kargil War veteran who commanded the 1/11 Gorkha Rifles during the Khalubar ridge operations.
Colonel Lalit Rai is a retired Colonel of the Indian Army, known particularly for his command of the 1/11 Gorkha Rifles during the 1999 Kargil War. Under his command the battalion played a central role in operations around the Khalubar ridge - an action for which the unit and its officers were recognised for their conduct in combat, including Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey's posthumous Param Vir Chakra.
Following retirement he has been a public voice on the Kargil conflict and on military leadership, speaking at regimental, educational, and corporate events. His accounts of the Khalubar operations have been widely cited in Indian military history and in media coverage of the war.
